Key Learnings from CitiesX Course

As I reflect on the CitiesX course, I wanted to give a quick summary on the 12 most impactful learnings that really stuck out to me.

1. The Power of Political Influence: Cities are often shaped by the political forces that govern them. From the imperial legacies of Paris and Rome to the planned capitals like Washington D.C., political power leaves an indelible mark on urban landscapes.


2. Trade as a Catalyst for Growth: Historically, cities have flourished at the crossroads of trade routes. The economic exchanges facilitated by trade not only drive growth but also bring cultural and social diversity to urban centers.


3. Industrialization and Urban Transformation: The rise of industrial cities like Manchester and Detroit illustrates how industrialization can transform urban areas. These cities grew rapidly, driven by the economic opportunities offered by industrial production.

The CitiesX course has provided a holistic view of the factors that influence urban life.
